There are 39 well known mantra included within the basic app and now several mantra available for in-app purchase from known and loved mantra chanters Krishna Das, Thomas Ashley-Farrand, Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa, and Nirinjan Kaur Khalsa. Look for more mantra from outside providers in future updates. We have heard your feedback and welcome suggestions.

Bring your practice with you where ever you go. Select your mantra from among beautifully spoken Buddhist, Hindu, Kundalini, Universal, and Planetary mantras in several voices, and when you slide a bead your iPhone says the mantra and keeps track of the beads. You can say the mantra along with the recording, or just listen. You will even see the king bead appear when you get to the end of your mala. So that you can easily tell which bead is the one to slide, we have made it slightly see-through. Keep your practice conscious, and make sure you push it all the way over to hear the mantra.

If you want to practice a mantra that we dont have recorded, you may record your own. You can record up to nine mantras, complete with the mantra words and description.

You can also choose to listen to music. With each mantra, we have selected either tambura in an appropriate key, or another meditative sound. You can easily set the volume for the music separately from the mantra, or turn it off altogether to hear only the mantra.

You can put your own deity image on the screen, or customize it with a photo. Just select any picture in your library. You can even email yourself an image, and add it to your library, and then select it for iMantra.

Also, set up the mala beads as you like -- anywhere from nine to 199 beads for the mala, and set up to 499 malas repetitions! This allows nearly 10,000 chants to be said and counted by iMantra.

iMantra keeps track of the number of mantras that you have said, and the number of malas that you have completed.

Or, to listen without having to interact with the phone, click the Buddhas beggar bowl and the beads slide out of view and the mantra is repeated for you to listen to. You can set the number of malas that you wish to hear, and iMantra will say exactly that number. We have even disabled the automatic phone shutoff so you are not interrupted during your practice. Hint: To avoid phone or email interruptions, set your iPhone to Airplane mode.

You can listen using the built-in speaker, or headphones. If you are connected to speakers using a dock or adapter you will hear the full quality of the mantras.

iMantra includes a volume slider that disappears when mantras are playing, so that you can adjust the playback volume. It also includes the Planetary Mantras, and more Hindu mantras.

Whether you have a beginners mind, and want to have examples to follow and learn, or you are a soul with an established practice, you will find iMantra a wonderful tool to use every day.

39 mantras are included, and we will be adding more in the future. When you download this app you are eligible to receive all the future updates for free as we add them. Please email us with suggestions for mantras you would like to have. Namaste.

Pros and cons of iMantra app for iPhone and iPad

iMantra app good for

This app is really well conceived, and does an unexpectedly great job of using technology to enhance (not replace) the spiritual experience. The library of included mantras are pronounced perfectly, and the background music complements a meditative state of mind. The developers are very responsive, and try very hard to answer questions promptly and accomodate suggestions. In my case, I asked for a variant of the Rahu mantra to be added, and received both a temporary workaround, as well as a commitment to consider the new mantra in the next release. I would have defnitely given the app 5 stars if there was a more robust library of included mantras. As it is, I would still give it 4 1/2 stars. Well Done !!!
This really allows me to meditate longer than my current attention will allow on my own. One suggestion for future would be to add binaural beats underneath the mantra and music. Love that you can make your own mantras as well. Its also nice that the mantras are sung more than once in the loops so it doesnt sound robotic and repetitive if that makes sense.
Very surprising app! I love the ascension mantra, but it would be great to have the text too in the app like the other mantras.
I love the variety of mantras but the voice used for the Buddhist chants are a little harsh. For a free app, this is brilliant.
The harshness of the voices on some of these mantras took some getting used to but given i mostly hear my own voice, I dont mind now. This app has so many mantras to choose from and is like having company in my meditation. Love it.
Really helps me meditate -- simple repeating mantras without complex background music. I have been looking for just this type of app but most have background music in addition to the mantra - nice to listen to but I find the music distracting for meditation purposes. This app fits the bill!

Some bad moments

The concept is good, but the design, programming and overall functionality of the program is very bad. Plenty of bugs and not polished enough to be rated above 3 stars.
The app looks GREAT, no doubt about that. But did not see the little NOTE for iPod Touch 1st Gen - did not know I had one of that generation actually. Result: cannot use it :o((((( A pity, because this means we ALREADY have to buy a new iPod Touch, while I bought mine not even a year ago - whats the point of meditating, if we are still encouraged to consume more and more??? It would be fabulous to have a newer version of iMantra that works on 1st gen... hopefully its feasible.
I have an ipod touch 4g, app is working fine when connects with wifi but it doesnt work offline.
Just showing the name, this app recites many short mantra repeatedly. Is That ALL? Yes. I expected mantras of some length, but there are mostly just "one sentence" mantras except Gayatri, padaya and "ascension Mantra" in English, at least I found out trying one by one. Additionally whenever you change a mantra, a file loaded from your iPhone/iPad takes some 30 sec. This app may teach you a merciful and generous attitude.
Description of app claims 39 mantras are included with purchase of app. In my experience none of the mantras work for more than a few minutes unless you pay additional 2 bucks for each one. Save your money and time, in my experience the service department doesnt work either!
Agree that voice choices would be nice. The current female voice with the male shadow sounds rather robotic to me rather than being stilling and meditative. Id rather hear a low droning male voice. It would be great if there were a feature where the mantras were spoken in their original language rather than English. Additional graphics would be nice too. I tend to nod off listening to this rather than focusing on the discipline of the meditation. Its a total bore compared to other programs.
